Security of Foundational Concern for Cloud Deployment [Infographic]

6 June, 2012

Security is naturally a massive concern for companies that want to take advantage of virtualization solutions without making huge capital investments in infrastructure that is frequently underutilized.

In a recent study from Intel, 99 percent of IT professionals asked, said that security is a major factor in considering cloud deployment methods, with 44 percent calling it the foundational factor. Companies are obligated to protect the data of their customers, vendors and employees, and IT managers are concerned that migration of data from a traditional in-house data center is a very risky proposition.

These concerns naturally drive businesses to opt for private cloud deployment. 52 percent of IT managers asked, stated a strong preference for a private cloud environment, while 31 percent preferred a hybrid cloud. Many of the benefits of using virtualization technology derive from an economic model in which up-front infrastructure investment is minimised. Private clouds, while maintaining the flexibility inherent in virtualization, do not have nearly the same economic benefits, involving much of the same maintenance and capital expenditure costs as a traditional data center.

Public cloud providers like Amazon are extremely flexible, but a cost of that flexibility is uncertainty as to where exactly data is being held at any particular time and how secure it is; 44 percent of IT professionals said that securing data was the the top challenge they faced with regard to cloud deployment. Confidence around public cloud technologies for sensitve data is not high, especially with the spate of recent high-profile media stories about stolen data and compromised accounts.

So, is using anything but a private cloud too risky? NYI offers superior virtualization solutions that deliver the benefits of cloud hosting technology, without the risks and uncertainty of a public cloud provider. Because we’re a first party provider, we know exactly where your data is at all times – in one of our secure SSAE16, HIPAA and PCI-DSS compliant locations. Our locations have multiple levels of security and are staffed around the clock throughout the year.

It’s almost impossible to ignore the strategic benefits of cloud deployment, and in time, companies that fail to take advantage may find themselves having trouble competing with those that do. All clouds are not made equal, but NYI’s Smart Cloud provides flexibility, accessibility, expertise, and peace of mind.
