3Q 2025 Summary
3Q was another great quarter for NYI with participation in many dynamic industry events and expansion of our network connectivity capabilities at our New York and Chicago facilities.
Interest in the Digital infrastructure industry is rapidly escalating with conferences expanding in size and scope to include new participants from additional areas such as the power industry, younger participants, and an influx of transformative new ideas.
Conferences such as Yotta and the Data Center Frontier Trends Summit encouraged cross-silo conversations and collaborative problem-solving for some of the pressing issues in this age of AI such as meeting increasing demand for land and power, and sustainable solutions. It is also clear that the role of connectivity-rich regional data centers like NYI will play a critical role in delivering AI to end users.
Facilitating Connectivity via Megaport
NYI was delighted to sponsor the Megaport World Tour event in Chicago and New York in celebration of our unique 10-year partnership and the extension of Megaport services to NYI Chicago. NYI leaders and team members enjoyed participating in the events and connecting with partners and customers.
Megaport’s powerful SDN platform enables easy connectivity to cloud providers as well as to other Megaport-enabled data centers around the world. As part of the partnership anniversary, we are currently offering a three-month Megaport trial with no port or cross connect fees. NYI customers in New York or Chicago who are interested in trying Megaport should contact their NYI customer success manager for more details.
America Rewired
NYI Co-Founder and COO Phillip Koblence was recently interviewed by Investment Reports for “America Rewired,” an upcoming report for The Washington Post, to be released in late Fall 2025. The extensive report will be based on interviews with 80 tech leaders and policy makers who are shaping America’s technology transformation against a backdrop of unprecedented investment in the space.
Phillip Koblence discusses the impact of AI and explains why the hybrid infrastructure model has become critical. He also shares insights about the importance of demystifying digital infrastructure and addressing the talent gap to ensure the future vitality of the industry. Read the full interview
“Moonshot” Ideas for the Data Center Industry
Phillip Koblence was honored to be a judge for 6 “Moonshot” Shark Tank style presentations at the Data Center Frontier Trends Summit on August 28th, helping evaluate each pitch’s feasibility, strategic relevance, and game-changing potential. The outstanding concepts led to all participants coming out winners! See brief descriptions of the concepts below.
Superconducting power transmission: This idea centers on using superconducting materials to transmit electricity with zero resistance. The goal is to eliminate power loss across long distances and alleviate the constraints currently facing data center siting.
Lunar data resiliency: This concept focuses on creating data centers or data storage facilities on the moon. It offers the ultimate in disaster recovery, protecting mission-critical data from terrestrial risks and creating a foundation for future lunar operations.
AI-optimized sustainability: This proposal involves using advanced AI models to drive environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. The AI would manage and optimize all aspects of a data center’s operations, from energy consumption to waste heat, to achieving aggressive sustainability goals.
AI-driven energy management: A concept for AI-driven energy controls in modular and microgrid-powered data centers. The idea is to use AI to maximize the use of sovereign and renewable energy, freeing data center growth from reliance on traditional power grids.
Data centers as heat sources: This idea focuses on reusing a data center’s waste heat as a primary product. Applications could include heating urban buildings, powering farms, or warming greenhouses, creating a circular energy economy.
Solid-state transformers: Pitched as a more efficient and powerful alternative to conventional, bulky electrical transformers, this moonshot would improve power delivery to high-density AI servers and increase energy efficiency.
The Midwest Datacenter Market is Thriving!
COO Phillip Koblence was excited to participate in the September 25th, Bisnow DICE Midwest opening panel discussion: The State of the Midwest Data Center Market: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges in Chicago and Across the Midwest.
The discussion highlighted the fact that the Chicago market offers an attractive combination of cost effectiveness, relatively abundant power and land, and a favorable incentive climate for development, creating fertile ground for Enterprise, Hyperscale, AI and Edge deployments. iMasons Awards
Our CO-Founder & COO Phillip Koblence was honored to be selected as a finalist for two prestigious iMasons awards this year: The Education Champion Award and the People Champion Award.
The Education Champion Award recognizes individuals who accelerate the flow of talent into the digital infrastructure industry by helping align the education sector to prepare the next generation. The People’s Champion Award recognizes individuals who have made a measurable and lasting difference in strengthening the talent pool. Their efforts help grow the industry by expanding opportunities and developing professionals.
Congratulations to the winners of these categories: Nabeel Mahmood and Valerie Crafton. See all iMasons 2025 awards.
