New York Internet Acquires $20 Million Data Center
On January 1st, 2004, The New York Internet Company took over Level 3's $20
million dollar Wall Street facility, housed on the top floor of 100 William
Street.
Sporting redundant fiber, power, Internet connectivity, and
emergency backup facilities, NYIs new facility is equipped
to handle even the most disastrous of scenarios. Some of the
specs of this robust new facility include:
- 2 Fully Meshed, Redundant Liebert 300 kW Uninterruptible Power Supplies
Onsite 2500 Amp DC Power Plant With Battery Backup
- 1.2 Megawatt Caterpillar generator with 5000 Gallon Diesel Fuel Tank
Over 200 tons of cooling capacity and humidity control with year-round
capability
- 18" raised floor throughout facility with air, fire, and water sensors
- Pre-wired, redundantly powered, Metaltech 36" Deep cabinets (with
adjustable 19-24" width) with individual combination lock for optimal
security and privacy
- Pre-action fire suppression system throughout facility
- Closed Circuit Camera monitoring throughout facility with time-delayed
video recording
- Both Biometric and Card Scan access throughout facility
- 24x7x365 electronic monitoring of all safety and control systems as well
as internal, external, and client networks
NYI feels that the tremendous outlay of capital which Level 3
invested to build this Class A Data Center facility, coupled
with NYIs reputation for personalized customer service and
responsiveness to its clients, is an unbeatable combination.
"We are marketing this space as a local disaster recovery facility
for New York City businesses that traditionally either
maintained their servers in house, or at far-off sites that are
difficult to manage," explains Erik Koblence, President of New York
Internet.
"After 9/11/01 and, more recently, [the blackout of] August 14, everyone
is only looking into a high-end product in terms of Colocation," says
Phillip Koblence, NYIs Vice President of Operations, "Mission critical
applications cannot incur downtime when there is a catastrophic event in
the metropolitan area. Customers are demanding a high-level of redundancy,
with plenty of power, bandwidth and security," continues Mr. Koblence, "We
feel that this acquisition of a Data Center that maintained service on
both 9/11/01 and 8/14/03, will allow us to take advantage of the
infrastructure of the NYC Financial District while maintaining a mission
critical and secure data center facility where clients from all over the
world can be assured of their applications integrity and uptime."
While the impressive specifications of NYIs newest facility are certainly
comparable to the top data centers in the industry, Erik and Phillip
Koblence, better known as the brothers of NYI, feel that the
differentiating factor to their network and Colocation product is the high
level of service offered. "Although our network has consistently earned
top marks on performance ranking sites such as Netcraft, our internally-
developed helpdesk and ticketing system has earned the praise of thousands
of its clients," says Erik, "There just arent many data center providers
out there that will reboot your system within 60 seconds of opening a
ticket." To be sure of highly -efficient responses, NYI constantly tracks
helpdesk statistics to make certain its techs are on top of all issues
incurred by the client right away, whatever they may be. Other
lightning-fast responses include DNS changes and additions, bandwidth
upgrades, IP additions, and remote hands support all within minutes of
notification.
